Message From The Chairman Board Of Trustees
 |
Rev. Fr. Ernesto M. Arceo, OP
Chairman
Board Of Trustees |
THE UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS HOSPITAL, INC. is a newly born chapter in the almost four-centuries old Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas. Now on its 60th year, The UST Hospital has been granted juridical autonomy and governance in order that it may possess the freedom to soar high toward the fulfillment of its Vision to be the Center of Excellence in healthcare from which emanates education, training and research in a setting that nurtures relationships guided by Catholic faith and morals."
Despite expected gestational resistance and difficulties, the new Organization and the changes it introduced already resulted in clear signs of a complete turnaround and progress. The recent changes breathed new life into the Hospital. And it now lives with renewed vigor. The enthusiasm to serve with competence, compassion and commitment has all the more become palpably evident in all levels --from the rank-and-file up to the members of the Board of Trustees. With very limited material resources and no additional capital input, the Hospital was able to continuously maintain its primary purpose of serving 460 dedicated beds in the Clinical Division while undergoing organizational and radical institutional and system reforms.
With the acceptance into the Board of lay experts who share its vision and commitment, the sole ownership of the Hospital has in fact and in deed entered a new era of corporate governance and management.
By God's abiding grace and with the full implementation of its Recovery Plans during the past fiscal year, the Hospital effectively scaled financial and reputation distress into a level of stability and competition. It has successfully resuscitated itself and is now set to develop and transform itself into a viable competitor, while remaining steadfastly committed to provide com- passionate health services to the poor and the needy.
Through its Development Plans the Hospital, equipped with new life and vigor, aims to regain its traditional stature --the premier University Hospital in the country.
