The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory offers an array of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Diagnostic Angiography and Catheterization
Definition
A special procedure used to visualize the different blood vessels of the body and structures of the heart, and to measure pressures for hemodynamic monitoring.
Procedure
A small puncture is made for access, either the groin or arm, and small plastic catheters are inserted then passed through the veins or arteries. A contrast media (dye) is injected into the blood vessels to allow visualization of the different structures through X-ray.
