It all started when Dr. Cosme Naval saw the need for a “one-stop specialty clinic” suited for his patients’ “sight-saving” needs. He envisioned a Center of Ophthalmology which caters to both the diagnostic & therapeutic requirements of the different ophthalmology subspecialties, from the simple refractive procedures to the most advanced endoscopic examinations.
The vision did not end there. In 1996, Dr. Jose Oconer (chairman at that time), Dr. Jose Duran and Dr. Jesus Eusebio, Jr. worked hand in hand to make this simple dream into a reality. Under the expertise of Architect Mijares, the construction of the institution was underway...
All the equipment initially found in the Center were obtained through the cooperative efforts of all the consultants. It was called “The Eye Center”, strategically located at the second floor of the UST Hospital Pay Division.
The Mission of the USTH Eye Center is to provide, with specialized medical and surgical eye care, patient and family education, clinical research, and superior customer service to our community.
