Besides its commitment to provide high quality diagnostic evaluations and patient care, the Heart Station- Echocardiography Laboratory unit is also committed to the education of physicians, technicians, and students. It is a facility for the education of undergraduates, interns, residents and Cardiology Fellows in cardiovascular anatomy and physiology. The unit is involved in the teaching of medical students using electrocardiography, cardiac ultrasound and Doppler techniques. It is the training ground in electrophysiology, echocardiography and peripheral vascular imaging for the Cardiology Fellows.
The training program includes a weekly echocardiography conference, weekly presentation during the Cardiology Grand Rounds, as well as clinico-radiologic-electrocardiographic-echocardiographic correlations, involving consultants, fellows, residents, interns and clerks.
The laboratory also serves as a ground for research. Numerous scientific works done by fellows and residents, involving electrocardiography and echocardiography have been cited and presented nationally and internationally as well as published in medical journals.
The unit continues in its never ending task of improving patient service and advance the education and training of its professional staff as it adheres to its goal of providing “Cardiovascular Care Delivered with Competence, Courtesy and Compassion”.
